Fox News host Dana Perino is being branded a hypocrite for her criticism of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s new social media strategy—to mimic U.S. President Donald Trump.

For the past week, Newsom’s press office has been copying Trump’s Truth Social playbook by imitating how he writes on social media.

Newsom has been posting in full caps, including flattering statements about himself and signing off in Trump’s signature style, “THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.”

Highlights
  • Dana Perino criticized Gavin Newsom’s Trump-style social media posts, calling them foolish and unprofessional.

With Trump’s penchant for handing out nicknames to political opponents, Newsom has branded him in turn as “Tiny Hands”.

Vice President JD Vance has been nicknamed “Just Dance Vance,” while Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is dubbed “Commander Cosplay.”

But Perino didn’t see the funny side to the posts or appear to get the point of them.

“You have to stop it with the Twitter thing,” Perino said. “I don’t know where his wife is? If I were his wife, I would say, ‘You are making a fool of yourself, stop it!’”

Perino, the former White House press secretary under George W. Bush, also alluded to rumors that Newsom is considering a 2028 run for president.

“Do not let your staff tweet, and if you are doing it yourself, put the phone away and start over.

“He’s got a big job as governor of California, but if he wants an even bigger job, he has to be a little more serious.”

Newsom’s press office responded by sharing a clip of Perino and writing: “ALMOST A WEEK IN AND THEY STILL DON’T GET IT.”

As her remarks circulated on social media, users branded her a hypocrite.

“Perino is a hypocrite. Trump is President and rage posts hourly. The hair dye is starting to affect Perino’s brain,” one person wrote.

“But she won’t say the same about Trump? It seems like Gov. Newsom is hitting them exactly where it bugs them most,” another added.

“Imagine if that was done by The President of The United States… now THAT would be completely embarrassing, childish, and unprofessional… Oh Wait… Thank you for your attention to this matter,” a third posted.

Some of Newsom’s recent Trump-esque posts have mocked plans such as the president’s desire to have his face carved into Mount Rushmore.

When one user generated a fake image showing Newsom carved beside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, he responded, “WOW! WHAT AN HONOR! ON MOUNT RUSHMORE, THANK YOU!! — GCN”

He also shared a mock-up of Vance dressed like Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn, who went viral for her Kangaroo-inspired moves at the Paris Olympics last year.

“DONALD (TINY HANDS) HAS WRITTEN HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY THIS MORNING — UNFORTUNATELY (LOW IQ), HE SPELLED IT WRONG — “BETA.” SOON YOU WILL BE A “FIRED” BETA BECAUSE OF MY PERFECT, “BEAUTIFUL MAPS.” THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! — GCN” One of his other posts read.

That tweet was in response to Trump’s cryptic one-word Truth Social post a few days ago, which simply read “Bela.”

There has been no explanation of what the post means, but social media users linked it to Belarus, where 16 political prisoners were recently released.

Others simply put the remarks down to a typo.
