Donald Trump was met with a chorus of boos and cheers as he attended the men’s final at the U.S. Open on Sunday.

The American president was joined by senior administration officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and granddaughter, Arabella Kushner, also joined him in the stands.

The entourage’s presence sparked security delays for some fans, with seats notably empty at the start of the match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in New York.

Organizers pushed back the starting time by half an hour, but many fans were still passing through security checkpoints and waiting in line when the game started.

The cheapest resale tickets for the men’s final were priced at around $802, but courtside tickets exceeded $12,000.

The Secret Service noted that its “comprehensive effort” to protect Trump may have resulted in some delays for attendees.

“We sincerely thank every fan for their patience and understanding,” it said in a statement reported by AP.

Many of the fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium when Trump arrived started to boo, while supporters of the president were seen passing MAGA hats for him to sign.

Alcaraz was also among those who welcomed Trump’s presence at the match.

“It is a privilege for the tournaments having the president from every country just to support the tournament, to support tennis, and to support the match,” he said on Saturday.

“For me, playing in front of him, I will try not to be focused on that, and I will try not to think about it,” the 22-year-old added.

“I don’t want myself to be nervous because of it, but I think, attending the tennis match, it’s great for tennis to have the president coming to the final.”

Alcaraz won the men’s U.S. Open for the second time, while Aryna Sabalenka retained her Grand Slam title after beating Amanda Anisimova in the women’s singles final a day earlier.

Broadcasters had been asked not to show any negative reactions to Trump’s appearance before the match.

Trump posted a warning to Hamas while attending the event

“We ask all broadcasters to refrain from showing any disruptions or reactions in response to the president’s attendance in any capacity,” the U.S. Tennis Association said in an email.

But both ABC News and ESPN refused to censor clearly audible boos in their broadcasts.

While Trump was in attendance at the match, he used the time to pen a warning to Hamas on Truth Social.

“Everyone wants the Hostages HOME. Everyone wants this War to end!” Trump wrote.

“The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning, there will not be another one!”

It is understood that Trump may have made the social media post while he was in his hospitality suite.

Witkoff, who was by Trump’s side on Sunday, reportedly sent a new proposal to Hamas last week.

Axios reported Sunday that the proposal includes Hamas releasing all 48 remaining hostages in exchange for a ceasefire and an end to Israel’s Gaza occupation plans.

Trump has also come under fire for comments he made to a reporter as he was leaving the White House on Air Force One to attend the tennis match.

NBC reporter Yamiche Alcindor asked Trump if he was planning to go to war with Chicago after he shared a meme suggesting as much on Truth Social.

Trump posted what appeared to be an AI-generated image of him wearing a U.S. Army uniform, a hat, and sunglasses, crouched down.

In the background is what looks to be an apocalyptic Chicago, with the words “Chipocalypse Now.”

The post read: “I love the smell of deportations in the morning…

“Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.”

When Alcindor asked Trump about a war with Chicago, he replied by calling her “darling” and telling her to be quiet.

“When you say that, darling, that’s fake news,” Trump said.

When Alcindor tried to follow up on the question, Trump snapped, “Listen. Be quiet. Listen.

“You don’t listen. You never listen. That’s why you’re second-rate.”

The exchange has received backlash online, with Democratic Rep. Jonathan Jackson writing on X, “President Trump is intimidated by #BlackWomen. He has spent decades attacking and belittling Black women because he fears their strength.

“I stand with @Yamiche as she does her JOB for the American people and ask the tough questions.”
