It’s not uncommon for President Donald Trump to go on a posting spree on Truth Social, but social media users were taken by surprise when he went off even on New Year’s Eve.
The president launched a series of late-night attacks that included comments about everything, from his usual complaining about Democrats, all the way to actor George Clooney.
- Donald Trump launched a late-night Truth Social rant on New Year’s Eve, targeting Democrats and actor George Clooney.
- Trump posted about removing the National Guard from cities, blaming Democrat leaders for rising crime.
- Trump reacted to Clooney becoming a French citizen, calling it “good news” amid immigration issues in France.
Journalist Aaron Rupar put Trump’s behavior in writing, “The president is having a New Year’s Eve crashout.”

“We are removing the National Guard from Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland, despite the fact that CRIME has been greatly reduced by having these great Patriots in those cities, and ONLY by that fact,” Trump started in one post.
“Portland, Los Angeles, and Chicago were GONE if it weren’t for the Federal Government stepping in. We will come back, perhaps in a much different and stronger form, when crime begins to soar again – Only a question of time! It is hard to believe that these Democrat Mayors and Governors, all of whom are greatly incompetent, would want us to leave, especially considering the great progress that has been made???” Trump said.
In another post, Trump ranted, “The Democrats are a bunch of cheaters and thieves that never want to do what’s good for America. As an example, they refuse to even consider Voter Identification. Why??? Because they want to cheat, and the Republicans should not put up with this, and many other such things, any longer!!!”

However, it was his comments about George Clooney that drew the most attention.
Trump reacted after Clooney gave an interview to Variety in which the actor discussed his past relationship with Trump.
“I knew him very well,” Clooney said. “He used to call me a lot, and he tried to help me get into a hospital once to see a back surgeon. I’d see him out at clubs and at restaurants. He’s a big goofball. Well, he was. That all changed.”
Clooney also criticized ABC and CBS for settling lawsuits brought by Trump. He said, “If CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, ‘Go f**k yourself,’ we wouldn’t be where we are in the country. That’s simply the truth.”

ABC News settled a defamation lawsuit brought by Trump by paying $15 million toward Trump’s future presidential library. CBS paid $16 million over an edited 60 Minutes interview with then Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump responded on Truth Social after reports emerged that Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, were naturalized as French citizens in December. He called the news “good.”
“Good News! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France,” Trump wrote.
He went on to criticize France’s handling of immigration, saying the couple became citizens in the “midst of a major crime problem because of their absolutely horrendous handling of immigration, much like we had under Sleepy Joe Biden.”

Trump continued, “Remember when Clooney, after the now infamous debate, dumped Joe during a fundraiser, only to go onto the side of another stellar candidate, Jamala(K!), who is now fighting it out with the worst governor in the Country, including Tim Waltz, Gavin Newscum, for who is going to lead the Democrats to their future defeat. Clooney got more publicity for politics than he did for his very few, and totally mediocre, movies.”
“He wasn’t a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump complained, ending his rant.
“Nothing says ‘great New Year’s Eve’ like an unhinged rant about George Clooney,” Republicans Against Trump said on X.

Clooney had a short response to Trump’s rant. “I totally agree with the current president,” Clooney told The Hollywood Reporter. “We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November.”
Clooney has criticized Trump for years. After the January 6 Capitol riot in 2021, Clooney said Trump’s name would end up in the “dustbin of history.”
“That name will now forever be associated with insurrection,” he added.
Amal Clooney has also spoken out against Trump. In 2019, she said his attacks on the press made “honest journalists all over the world more vulnerable to abuse.”
The Clooney family currently lives in France. George Clooney said the move reflects concerns about raising their children in Hollywood culture.
“They’re not on their iPads,” Clooney said in a recent interview with GQ. “They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”
