Senate Confirms Trump “Enforcer” Emil Bove For Lifetime Judge Role, Ignoring Whistleblower Claims
The Senate has confirmed Donald Trump’s so-called “enforcer” Emil Bove 50-49 for a lifetime position in the U.S.Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit.
Bove, 44, has faced several allegations regarding his conduct, including claims he directed Department of Justice (DOJ) attorneys to ignore court rulings against them.
Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins were the only two Republican Senators who opposed his appointment as a federal appeals court judge, with all Democrats voting against it.
- Emil Bove was confirmed 50-49 to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals despite whistleblower claims against him.
- Bove is accused of directing DOJ attorneys to ignore court rulings and misleading Congress on bribery charges.
- Only two Republicans, Murkowski and Collins, opposed Bove’s lifetime judicial appointment; all Democrats voted no.
- Senate Democrats condemned the vote, calling it an assault on judicial integrity.
- Trump’s allies, including AG Pam Bondi, praised Bove’s confirmation as a great day and praised his DOJ service.

“I don’t think that somebody who has counseled other attorneys that you should ignore the law, you should reject the law, I don’t think that that individual should be placed in a lifetime seat on the bench,” Murkowski said, according to AP.
Bove was previously Trump’s personal attorney and defended him in two federal criminal cases. He has been described as Trump’s “enforcer” at the DOJ.
Whistleblowers have complained about his conduct, specifically regarding the Trump administration’s efforts to deport immigrants to an El Salvador prison.

Erez Reuveni, a former DOJ attorney, claimed that at a meeting in March, Bove stated that a court might attempt to block those deportations, which Trump carried out under the Alien Enemies Act.
Bove allegedly said the department would need to “ignore any such order” and consider telling the courts “f**k you.”
Bove was questioned over the allegations during his Senate nomination hearing, but he denied directing attorneys to defy court orders and said he couldn’t recall making such statements.

Reuveni’s allegations were corroborated by a second whistleblower, who came forward with documents that reportedly back up claims that Bove directed attorneys to withhold information from judges and defy court orders.
The identity of the second whistleblower has not been publicly disclosed.
A further complaint alleges that Bove misled Congress on bribery charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams being dropped.
Concerns have also been raised regarding Bove’s efforts to investigate officials within the department who played a role in prosecuting hundreds of Trump supporters tied to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
Democrats have strongly criticized the appointment
I want to be very clear about what Senate Republicans did tonight.
They to put Emil Bove, a January 6th sympathizer, on one of the highest courts in the country.
It is unfathomable that just over four years after the insurrection at the Capitol—when rioters desecrated this…

“They reward a man, credibly accused of wanting to lie to judges, with a black robe and gavel of his own,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said after the vote, The Hill reported.
“And they’re confirming him for one reason only: Mr. Bove is loyal to Donald Trump, therefore, Donald Trump wants him on the bench. The calculus is as simple as that.”
In a later post on X, Schumer described it as a “dark day, a dark vote, and a dangerous nominee Republicans confirmed.”
Senator Chris Van Hollen also condemned the appointment in a post on X.
The confirmation of Emil Bove to the 3rd Circuit is a direct assault on the integrity of our justice system.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, described the concerns raised by Democrats as an “obstruction tactic.”
“Eleventh-hour media smears by my colleagues based on information that was hidden from the Committee are unacceptable, and I won’t stand for it as a delay and obstruction tactic,” he said on the Senate floor, AP reported.
“This tactic didn’t work against Justice Kavanaugh, and it won’t work against Mr. Bove.”

Bove’s appointment was welcomed by senior Trump administration officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“Congratulations to our dear friend Emil Bove on his confirmation to serve on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals!” Bondi wrote on X.
“This is a GREAT day for our country. I cannot thank Emil enough for his tireless work and support at @TheJusticeDept. He will be missed — and he will be an outstanding judge.”
Trump nominated Bove earlier this year as part of a slate of judicial picks he vowed to place in federal courts when he retook office.
His confirmation process was fast-tracked by the Senate Judiciary Committee despite Democrats’ calls for further investigation.
The 3rd Circuit covers Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and the Virgin Islands.
