Gavin Newsom Trolls Trump With ‘Crying Fit’ Video After Proposition 50 Cruises To Victory
California Governor Gavin Newsom has celebrated his state passing Proposition 50 with a mocking AI video of Donald Trump in tears.
Newsom shared the clip of an AI-generated Trump wearing a hat that read “Newsom was right about everything” as he cried and pouted in a post on X.
The post came after Californians headed to the polls in a special election on Tuesday, November 4, and voted to pass a measure to temporarily override the independent redistricting commission and redraw the state’s congressional lines.

Newsom introduced the plan in response to Texas enacting partisan redistricting earlier this year and said the state was “going to fight fire with fire.”
Former President Barack Obama also backed the plans, telling the National Democratic Redistricting Committee at an event in August that Newsom’s proposal was a “responsible approach.”
The legislation effectively gives Democrats an advantage in five districts, canceling out the Republican gains in Texas after the GOP approved new Congressional maps.
However, Trump has pressured several other Republican states to redraw their maps in favor of the party, so whether Newsom’s efforts will be enough remains to be seen.

The efforts come ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, with the GOP hoping its redistricting efforts will help close its narrow control of the House.
Democrats see winning the House in the midterms as key to limiting Trump’s legislative agenda halfway through his second term.
In California, the changes to the maps will be temporary in the 2026, 2028, and 2030 election cycles, after which a new U.S. Census will be used to redraw the map for the following decade.
According to the state’s official voter guide, the change will cost counties a few million dollars statewide to update voting materials and administrative systems.

Other Democratic-led states such as New York and Illinois have also signaled plans to redraw maps in a bid to cancel out any Republican gains before the midterms.
Speaking after Prop 50 passed, Newsom said, “We’re proud of the work the people of California did tonight to send a powerful message to a historic president.
“Donald Trump is the most historically unpopular president in modern history.”
“Instead of agonizing over the state of our nation, we organized in an unprecedented way in a 90-day sprint,” Newsom added.

“We stood tall and we stood firm in response to Donald Trump’s recklessness and tonight, after poking the bear, this bear roared.”
Newsom is widely seen as a Democratic contender for a 2028 presidential run, having come out strongly against Trump and even using his own social media playbook against him.
Newsom told CBS News last week that he was considering a run but would wait until after the 2026 midterms before making a final decision.
“Yeah, I’d be lying otherwise,” Newsom said in response to a question about whether he had given a White House bid serious thought. “I’d just be lying. And I’m not—I can’t do that.”
Newsom’s term as governor ends in 2027, and he can’t run again, as the role is limited to two terms, which he will have served by then.
He said that while he was considering a 2028 run, a decision was still years away.
“Fate will determine that,” he said.
