Viewers quickly interpreted the post as a reference to the U.S. drug epidemic, particularly fentanyl use.

The backlash comes as political tensions between the U.S. and Greenland continue to rise. Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in taking over the Danish-owned territory, despite Greenland and Denmark firmly rejecting the idea.

Trump has continued to press the issue and has threatened additional tariffs against countries that oppose his plans.

Naaja Nathanielsen, Greenland’s minister for business and mineral resources, said the sudden global attention has been deeply unsettling for the island’s population of about 57,000 people, describing the situation as “quite devastating” for residents.

The video that has gone viral consists of Greenlanders imitating the “fentanyl fold,” a state of severe opioid intoxication, often in public, causing a person to be bent over at the waist or neck, in a semi-conscious state.

One social media user called it “American Urban Yoga.”

But MAGA supporters did not take the joke well.

“Ya, you will be bent over when our boys get there,” said one X user. A second commented, calling them “future americans with a sense of humor.”

One user claimed, “NEVER FORGET: American culture is world culture, everything else is cope,” while another maintained, “Nah we can’t let that slide.”

A third said, “Two people in a TikTok clip doesn’t represent the entire country.”

“The Democratic Party is a national security threat. It’s time for Trump to stop using kid gloves and even destroy the Constitution if it stands in the way,” one person said.

Another person, supporting Trump’s taking over of Greenland, said, “One [sic] we buy Greenland can we deport all these people to Somalia?”

Many users supported Trump’s fixation on Greenland, saying it will be Republicans ruling the island and not Democrats, and hence, “no need to worry about that.”

They also commented that the U.S. cities mocked in the video are Democrat-run cities, and not Republican.

One netizen called it “Democrat Culture.”

Grok, X’s AI chatbot, also got reeled in for some fact-checking when one user said, “Funny because it’s only democratic policies that allow that ‘culture.’”

One user responded, asking Grok, “What are the top 10 states with the worst drug problems per capita, and what political party did each of those states elect?”

Grok responded, naming seven Republican-run and three Democratic-run cities, with the top 4 being Republican cities.

According to USA Facts, Republican West Virginia had the highest rate of fentanyl overdose deaths in the U.S. in 2023, followed by Democratic Washington, D.C., Democratic Delaware, and Republican Tennessee.

Trump had used the U.S. drug crisis as part of his rationale for military action in Venezuela, where the administration conducted strikes on vessels in late 2025 and early 2026.

The U.S. also launched a military operation that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro

Trump and some of his supporters claimed that Maduro was “flooding America with deadly fentanyl” and that action was needed to protect Americans.

However, U.S. government reports and drug policy experts have cited that the majority of U.S. fentanyl comes from Mexico and is made with chemicals from China.
