Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence has revealed why she no longer speaks out against the Trump administration after endorsing Kamala Harris for president.
The 35-year-old star was previously outspoken on her political beliefs, backing Harris in 2024 and Joe Biden in 2020.
However, speaking to The New York Times for The Interview podcast on Sunday, November 1, Lawrence said she wasn’t sure celebrity opinions made a difference.
- Jennifer Lawrence stopped speaking out against Trump, doubting celebrity opinions influence voters during elections.
- She wants to protect her craft so audiences can enjoy her films without political distraction or adding division.
- Lawrence’s production company, Excellent Cadaver, highlights political issues via documentaries on Afghanistan and Texas abortion bans.

Lawrence, who often commented on the Trump administration’s first term, was asked if she would continue to do so during his second term.
“I don’t really know if I should,” she replied. “The first Trump administration was so wild, and just how can we let this stand? I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off.”
“But as we’ve learned election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for,” Lawrence continued.
“So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart. We are so divided.”
Lawrence is currently promoting her new film Die, My Love, which will be released in theaters on Friday, November 7.

In the movie, Lawrence plays a young mother who develops postpartum depression. She stars beside Robert Pattinson, who plays her partner.
One of the reasons behind her decision not to be as vocal when it comes to politics, she told NYT, was that she wanted everyone to be able to enjoy her art.
“I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I’m doing, what I’m showing,” Lawrence said.
“If I can’t say something that’s going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I just don’t want to be a part of the problem. I don’t want to make the problem worse.”
She added, “A lot of movies coming out from my production company are expressions of the political landscape, and that’s how I feel like I can be helpful.”
Her production company, Excellent Cadaver, has released documentaries about women living in Afghanistan under the Taliban (Bread and Roses) and the abortion ban in Texas (Zurawski v. Texas).
Trump called for several celebrities, including Beyoncé, to be prosecuted

Lawrence was not the only Hollywood celebrity to endorse Harris; she was one of many to rally around the Democratic nominee in a bid to block Trump from the White House.
However, their efforts made little difference to American voters, who elected Trump to serve a second term.
Beyoncé was one of the most famous names to rally for the Harris campaign, joining the then vice president at an event in Houston in October 2024.
Trump has since called for several celebrities, including Beyoncé, to be “prosecuted” over their endorsement of Harris.
He claimed earlier this year that the Democrats had paid Beyoncé $11 million to support Harris, despite there being no evidence of this and campaign officials denying it.
