Schlossberg, 35, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy, had been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and publicly shared her diagnosis about a month ago.

The JFK Library Foundation confirmed Schlossberg’s passing in a statement on social media on Tuesday morning.

It was signed by her husband, Dr. George Moran, and their children, Edwin and Josephine.

Just hours after the news, Trump took to his social media platform to share a series of critical posts taking aim at the family and welcoming the decision to rename the Kennedy Center.

“The Kennedy Family have LONG neglected the Kennedy Center, btw,” one post that was re-shared by Trump read.

Another added, “They don’t raise money for it. They never show up. And the only Kennedy who has been there recently is a member of Trump’s cabinet.”

“The Trumps have always been supporters of the arts. The Kennedys are supporters of the Kennedys,” a third post read.

A further post stated, “‘Kennedy family members’ doesn’t carry the weight it once did. They are totally Democratic socialists now rooting for America and Trump to fail.”

In addition to sharing messages from his supporters, Trump also posted articles claiming that board members had unanimously voted to rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to the Trump-Kennedy Center.

That claim, purported by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, has been disputed by board members who were on the call.

The Kennedy Center was named by an act of Congress in 1964 in tribute to the late Democratic president, who was assassinated in 1963.

Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty said that members were muted as soon as they tried to voice opposition.

“I was on that call, and as I tried to push my button to voice my concern, to ask questions, and certainly not to vote in support of this, I was muted,” Beatty said.

“Each time I tried to speak, I was muted. Participants were not allowed to voice their concerns who were online, yet it was said at the end it was a unanimous vote,” she added.

The decision to rename the center after Trump was strongly criticized by members of JFK’s family, including his grandson, Jack Schlossberg, and his niece, Maria Shriver.

Shriver did not respond to Trump’s latest attack but posted a tribute to her late cousin, an environmental journalist, on social media.

“I return to this space today to pay tribute to my sweet, beloved Tatiana, who left this earth today,” Shriver wrote on X.

“I return to this space to pay tribute and honor her loving and supportive family, who came together and did everything they possibly could do to help her. I return to this space heartbroken because Tatiana loved life. She loved her life, and she fought like hell to try to save it.”

She added, “I cannot make sense of this. I cannot make any sense of it at all. None. Zero.”

“My heart has always been with my cousin Caroline ever since we were little kids. My entire being is with her now. What a rock she has been.”

In a November essay for The New Yorker, Schlossberg wrote about her diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, revealing that concerns were raised about her blood count after the birth of her daughter in May 2024.

“During the latest clinical trial, my doctor told me that he could keep me alive for a year, maybe,” Schlossberg wrote.

“My first thought was that my kids, whose faces live permanently on the inside of my eyelids, wouldn’t remember me. My son might have a few memories, but he’ll probably start confusing them with pictures he sees or stories he hears.

“I didn’t ever really get to take care of my daughter—I couldn’t change her diaper or give her a bath or feed her, all because of the risk of infection after my transplants.”

“I was gone for almost half of her first year of life. I don’t know who, really, she thinks I am, and whether she will feel or remember, when I am gone, that I am her mother.”

Schlossberg also spoke of how, while she was receiving CAR-T treatment, her cousin Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., now health secretary, was in the process of being nominated and confirmed.

She described how his running and endorsement of Trump was an “embarrassment” to herself and her immediate family.

“I watched from my hospital bed as Bobby, in the face of logic and common sense, was confirmed for the position, despite never having worked in medicine, public health, or the government,” Schlossberg said.

“Suddenly, the health-care system on which I relied felt strained, shaky. Doctors and scientists at Columbia, including George, didn’t know if they would be able to continue their research, or even have jobs.”

She went on to describe her fear of RFK Jr. being a vaccine critic and worries that she would be left immunocompromised.

Schlossberg also described watching as massive cuts to medical research under RFK Jr.’s leadership gutted mRNA vaccine development, slashed billions from the National Institutes of Health, and cancelled hundreds of grants and clinical trials, putting thousands of patients, and her own chances at remission, at risk.

She recalled fearing for lifesaving treatments as expert panels were threatened and as misoprostol, a drug that once saved her life after a postpartum hemorrhage, was placed “under review” by the Food and Drug Administration, forcing her to confront how close she, and countless other women, came to losing essential care.
