Newly released documents have revealed that Donald Trump called a Florida police chief after JeffreyEpstein was arrested in 2006.

The presidenttold law enforcement it was well known in New York that Epstein was “disgusting” and he had thrown him out of his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.

Trump has previously denied knowing Epstein’s criminal activities, saying he had “no idea” after the disgraced financier was arrested for sex trafficking in 2019.

However, that account appears to be challenged by a phone call in 2006 that then-Palm Beach police chief Michael Reiter received from Trump.

Details of that call were reported to the FBI by Reiter in 2019 after he was interviewed by federal agents investigating Epstein.

According to a document detailing the interview, released by the Justice Department in response to the Epstein Transparency Act, Trump was one of the first people to call when he discovered there was an ongoing investigation into Epstein.

Reiter’s name was redacted from the document, but he confirmed to the Miami Herald that he was interviewed by the FBI in 2019 and that he had spoken with Trump in July 2006.

“Trump called the PBPD to tell him ‘thank goodness you’re stopping him, everyone has known he’s been doing this,’” the document states.

“Trump told him people in New York knew Epstein was disgusting.”

As well as mentioning Epstein, Trump told Reiter that Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, was “Epstein’s operative,” adding that “she is evil and to focus on her.”

As per the document, Trump also told Reiter that on one occasion, he was around Epstein when teenagers were present and he “got the hell out of there.”

Asked about the document during a press briefing on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt refused to confirm or deny the call.

She said it “may or may not have happened in 2006. I don’t know the answer.”

“What President Trump has always said is that he kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club because Jeffrey Epstein was a creep,” Leavitt added.

“And that remains true in this call. If it did happen, it corroborates exactly what President Trump has said from the beginning.”

Trump has said that he fell out with Epstein because he recruited several of his employees, including Epstein’s most vocal accuser, Virginia Giuffre, from his Palm Beach resort.

“Everyone knows the people that were taken,” Trump said. “People were taken out of the spa hired by him. I didn’t know that,” Trump told reporters in July.

“And then when I heard about it, I told him, I said, ‘Listen, we don’t want you taking our people, whether it was spa or not spa.’ I don’t want him taking people. And he was fine. And then not too long after that, he did it again. And I said, ‘Out of here.’”

In 2002, two years after Giuffre was recruited by Maxwell, Trump told New York Magazine: “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

Reports of Trump’s call to law enforcement in 2006 come as Maxwell invoked her Fifth Amendment right in a sworn deposition on Monday.

She refused to answer questions from the House Oversight Committee during a video call from a Texas prison camp dubbed “Club Fed,” which she was moved to in August 2025.

In a statement to the committee, Maxwell’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, said she would only speak if granted clemency by President Donald Trump.

“If this Committee and the American public truly want to hear the unfiltered truth about what happened, there is a straightforward path,” he said.

“Ms. Maxwell is prepared to speak fully and honestly if granted clemency by President Trump. Only she can provide the complete account. Some may not like what they hear, but the truth matters.

“For example, both President Trump and President Clinton are innocent of any wrongdoing. Ms. Maxwell alone can explain why, and the public is entitled to that explanation.”
