Donald Trump’s biggest donor reportedly offered him a $250 million handout if he ran for a third presidential term – something banned by the U.S. Constitution.
Trump and his allies, such as Steve Bannon, have repeatedly referenced him running for a third term in 2028.
Bannon has even announced that there are plans in place to circumvent the 22nd Amendment, which reads: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
- Trump's top donor, Miriam Adelson, reportedly offered him $250 million to run for a constitutionally banned third presidential term.
- Steve Bannon and Trump allies claim to have plans to bypass the 22nd Amendment restricting presidents to two terms.
- At a White House Hanukkah event, Trump publicly praised Adelson and referenced her $250 million donations to his efforts.

It was a plan brought up by an attendee at the White House Hanukkah reception on Tuesday as the president was giving a speech to those gathered.
Trump brought his biggest donor on stage, Israeli-American billionaire Miriam Adelson, who, he said, had directly and indirectly donated $250 million to his political efforts so far.
“When somebody can give you $250 million, I think that we should give her the opportunity to say hello,” Trump said as he asked Adelson to the stage.
“Miriam, make it quick, cause $250 million is not what it used to be,” he added.

After the pair embraced, Trump described Adelson as a great woman and said her late husband, Sheldon Adelson, loved Israel.
Adelson then went on to address the crowd and recalled meeting Trump’s impeachment lawyer, Alan Dershowitz.
“I met Alan Dershowitz, and he said the legal thing about four more years, and I said, ‘Alan, I agree with you’, so we can do it,” Adelson said.
“Think about it,” Adelson added as the crowd began to shout, “Four more years.”
Trump stepped up to the mic and said, “She said, ‘Think about it, I’ll give you another $250 million.’”

“I will give,” Adelson asserted.
Trump then continued to pay tribute to Adelson’s late husband, recalling that he would often come to visit him during his first term.
“What he did is he fought for Israel, that’s all he really fought for, he just wanted to take care of Israel,” Trump said.
Adelson is one of the Republican Party’s most powerful donors and has long prioritized support for Israel as a political cause.
She inherited her fortune after the death of her husband, casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, in 2021, and has since emerged as a leading financial backer of Trump and conservative causes.

During Trump’s first term, his administration moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
Those decisions were widely welcomed by pro-Israel groups that Adelson supports.
Talk of Trump running again in 2028 comes as his Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, in a wide-ranging exclusive with Vanity Fair published this week, said he enjoys frustrating people.
Wiles told journalist Chris Whipple that she has heard Trump acknowledge privately that he cannot run for a third term, while also enjoying the political chaos the talk creates.
“Will the president run for a third term?” Whipple asked in November.

“No,” she said, and then added, “But he sure is having fun with it.”
Wiles said Trump knows it’s “driving people crazy” and agreed that is why he talks about it, adding that the president had told her in so many words that he would not run in 2028.
She continued, “Sometimes he laments, ‘You know, gosh, I feel like we’re doing really well. I wish I could run again.’ And then he immediately says, ‘Not really. I will have served two terms, and I will have gotten done what I need to get done, and it’s time to give somebody else a chance.’ So, you know, any given day, right? But he knows he can’t run again.”
