President Donald Trump set off a new round of confusion and criticism this week after proposing a rebranding of the Republican Party centered entirely around his own name.
The 79-year-old unveiled the idea on Wednesday on Truth Social, asking his followers to help choose a new word for what he called a “TRUMP REPUBLICAN.”
The suggestions triggered a wave of reactions across conservative social media.
- President Trump proposed renaming the Republican Party using variations like 'TEPUBLICAN' or 'TPUBLICAN,' centered around his name.
- Trump's suggestion sparked mixed reactions, with supporters creating new names and critics mocking it as branding without substance.
- Trump's rebranding comes amid low approval ratings and internal GOP conflicts, including disputes over the Epstein files and public rifts.

In the post, Trump suggested two options: “TEPUBLICAN” or “TPUBLICAN.”
“There is a new word for a TRUMP REPUBLICAN, which is almost everyone (GREAT POLICY IS THE KEY!). It is, TEPUBLICAN??? Or, TPUBLICAN???” he wrote on social media.
Some Trump loyalists embraced the idea and offered their own alternatives, including “Trumplican,” “MAGAcans,” or simply “The Donald J. Trump Republican Party.”
Even his son Donald Trump Jr. chipped in, offering the name “Trumpublican.”
One user then insisted they were “a Trumplican, NOT a Republican.”
Of course, many critics also joined the conversation.
“This is what happens when a personality cult tries to do branding without a functioning brain cell in the room,” an X user said, responding to Trump Jr.’s post. “‘TRUMP REPUBLICAN… TEPUBLICAN??? Or, TPUBLICAN???’ and Junior proudly chimes in with ‘Shouldn’t it really be Trumplican???’ as if he’s just solved cold fusion.
“This is not political messaging, this is a family group chat that accidentally leaked onto a national platform.”

“Funny how branding takes priority over policy when the cult becomes the campaign,” another user said.
“NO! Just an American Republican! We do not belong to any Person and we do not need any cutsie names! We are Republicans in America! We are We The people!” a third said, standing up against the proposed names.
This is not the first time Trump has attempted to slap his name on something. Earlier this year, the Trump Organization launched a new phone service called Trump Mobile, featuring a gold-colored smartphone called the T1 Phone.
Trump has also endorsed and licensed his name and image to promote the God Bless The USA Bible, which is also known as the Trump Bible.
Trump has previously released and endorsed products, including a Bible, with his name on them
The Trump Organization also runs the Trump Store, a for-profit that sells merchandise related to the president.
The Guardian reported in January this year that in just two months, 168 new products appeared for sale on the store’s website. The store has raised concerns from ethics groups since it was launched in 2017.
The combination of “t” and “p” sounds at the start of “Tpublican,” language experts noted, resembles a rare consonant cluster used in only a few remote regions around the world.
Producing the sound requires coordinating the tongue and lips at the same time, something most English speakers never encounter, The Daily Beast wrote.
Trump also claimed in his post that “almost everyone” is a Trump Republican, while several polls show that Trump is facing the lowest approval rate of his second term.

Trump’s rebranding attempt is happening during a turbulent period inside the Republican Party. Internal tensions have increased over a battle to release the Epstein files and a public rift between Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The president’s behavior has also drawn renewed scrutiny. Recently, he snapped at a female reporter who questioned him about the Epstein files, calling her “piggy.” He has shifted his stance on the files several times, at one point dismissing them as a “Democratic Hoax,” then signing a bill to release the documents.
His conduct has prompted questions about his mental sharpness. Comedian Shane Gillis recently said Trump “seems a little slower than usual,” but that he has not reached “Biden brain” levels yet.

Recently, his niece, Mary Trump, appeared on a podcast, where she compared Trump’s cognitive decline to that of his father, who had mild senile dementia for years before his death.
“I see that he does not always seem to be oriented to time and place. His short-term memory seems to be deteriorating,” she said about Trump.
The Republican Party has been around since 1854 and has retained its name since then.
